S. N. Surendar Biography

S. N. Surendar is a noted playback singer and dubbing artist associated with Tamil cinema. He is a seasonal actor too. He has also sung songs belonging to Telugu and Kannada languages. Apart from singing more than 500 songs belonging to different south Indian languages he has dubbed for nearly 600 films. Though he has sung a few songs in movies, he gained recognition as a professional dubbing artist. He has done more than 75 films accounts for actor Mohan, and played a significant role in establishing him as a romantic hero of Tamil cinema. Virtually he has dubbed for almost all movies of Mohan, except one or two – the well-established romantic hero of 1980s.

 

Surendar did brief roles in a few movies such as Yaaga Saalai, Naalaya Theerpu, Ayya Vazhi, Priyamudan etc. He was most recently seen in Thiraipada Nagaram (2015). The popular film actor Vijay is his nephew. In 1999 he received the prestigious Kalaimamani Award from the government of Tamil. He won the Best Dubbing Artist Award in 2005 given by the Tamil Nadu State government.

 

He hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His childhood and younger days were spent in Chennai. He was born into a musical family and Surendran too stepped into the same field. His sister Shoba Chandrasekar is also music passionate who has done many music concerts. She has also done playback singing for Tamil films. She is married to noted filmmaker S. A. Chandrasekar. Thus Tamil superstar Vijay is his nephew. Surendran too has sung a few songs. But basically he is a voice over artist. He has acted in a few films since 1980s. His son Hari Prashanth played the childhood role of Vikram in Tamil blockbuster, Anniyan in 2005.
