S. Balakrishnan Biography

S. Balakrishnan is a music director of Malayalam cinema, who was most active in the era of early 1990s. He has given some hit numbers to blockbuster movies like Ramjirao speaking, Vietnam Colony, In harihar nagar and Godfather – all belonging to the top director duo Siddique-Lal. His other hits include – Kilukkampetti, Gruhapravesam, Ishtamaanu Nooruvattam, Mazhavilkoodaram etc. With late 1990s he took a break from film industry and most recently has announced his comeback with an album of East Coast Vijayan titled Mohabbat.

 

S. Balakrishnan is known for composing music for fast numbers though he owns some melodious numbers as well. Some of his chartbuster fast tracks include Mantri Kochamma varunnunde of Godfather, Avanavan kurukkunna of Ramjirao speaking, Thaalmelam of Vietnam colony etc. He has composed some melodious numbers like Pavanarachezhuthunna Kolangalennum of Vietnam Colony, Kanner kayaliletho of Ramji Rao speaking and Neerpalungukal of Godfather. He also owns the credit of romantic numbers like Ponnum poovum varichoodam punnara poo of Ishtamanu nooru vattam, Manjil maayum saayamkalam of ponnum poovum varichoodam punnara poo, Pookkalam vannu of Gofather and Pathiravai neram of Vietnam Colony. Pathiravai neram is the most memorable song of Minmini’s music career in Malayalam.  

 

S. Balakrishnan was born in Chennai to Malayali parents. He spent his childhood and teens in Chennai. He made his film debut as a music composer through Ramjirao speaking in 1989. The movie happened to be the debut venture of it director-duo apart from the lead actors Rekha and Saikumar. The movie was a huge hit and its music was also very popular. Since then Siddique-Lal used him in almost all their movies.
