Rupam Sarmah Biography

Rupam Sarmah is a cine personality from Jorhat, Assam. He is known as a film maker, musician, composer and singer associated with Assamese cinema. He is also a businessman and computer scientist. Originally from Assam he is currently based in California. He composed and directed an International Symphony, A Musical Journey for World Peace, featuring 315 unique musical instruments from all over the world and over 500 performers. He made this performance at Jorhat, Assam, India on Feb 24, 2013. This unique performance earned him a Guinness World Record. Rupam has worked for top IT companies as an IT specialist and is currently doing research on Artificial Intelligence.

Rupam was born on an independence day in Assam. He got interested in music since his childhood days. He learnt Indian instruments and classical vocals while he was living in Golaghat and Jorhat. Yet he gave equal preference to academics as well. He completed his engineering from JEC. For advanced studies in IT, he moved to USA. Yet he continued his interests in film, sound engineering and music. While at US, he learnt Hindustani music from music maestro Ali Akbar Khan. At present he has excelled in different fields – like IT, music and films. Rupam is also a voting member of Grammy awards since 2005 as a musician, producer and engineer.

Rupam has worked with numerous international top artistes, and has already given performance at more than 35 countries across the globe. Rupam always promotes Assam and India wherever he goes, because of his love towards Indian culture. One of his directorial projects, In Search of God is about a spiritual quest in Majuli, and it received Best Documentary Feature Film at Indian Film Festival in USA. The song Enlighten Your Soul composed by him received the ‘Best Global Peace Song’ award in 2017.
