Ruchir Sharma Biography

Ruchir Sharma was born in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan in 1969 and did his initial schooling from Jaipur, Mumbai, Delhi and Singapore. He did his Graduation in Commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi.

Recently Ruchir Sharma of Stanley Morgan the investment management group has been placed at 50th spot in the list of Bloomberg’s Top 50 Internationally influential people. Incidentally our Prime Minister Modi is also there in that list at 13th spot headed by American Jennet Yellen, the chief of Federal Reserve of America the others include Barack Obama and She Jin Ping. Ruchir Sharma, joined Morgan Stanley Investment Management Inc. in 1996 and currently works as Managing Director and Co-Head of the Emerging Markets Equity. He is also responsible for the global tactical asset allocation investment of the company. Incidentally before joining Morgan Stanley Ruchir Sharma worked at Prime Securities Ltd (Delhi), where he ran the firm's foreign exchange business.

Ruchir Sharma Constantly writes articles and columns regarding Foreign Affairs in The New York Times. The Financial Times, Time, Foreign Policy, Forbes, The Bloomberg View, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and other publications. He is Author of Breakout Nations: In Pursuit of the Next Economic Miracles, the internationally recognized and awarded book.

Ruchir Sharma’ views about business are clear and having a foresight as he announced as early as in 2010 itself that China was running out of growth drivers and had little chances left to expand the heavy investment and will fall out from the double digit growth very soon. Ruchir Sharma had predicted in The New York Times that China will find it hard to sustain its 8 percent growth for a long time and it has proved now that Ruchir was right.

Ruchir Sharma has very interesting case study of India as he sees India is progressing on federal model, which is similar to the European Union, with every Indian state perusing its own economic strategy and the states with good leadership are doing better and faster progress.
