Roopesh Kumar Biography

Roopesh Kumar was a popular character artist associated with Bollywood films. A small time actor, he was the cousin of the leading female star actress of 1970s – Mumtaz. He worked in over 100 Hindi films and has donned different types of roles. Played both comic roles and grey shaded ones, Roopesh is best remembered for his villain roles.

Started his career with Tarzan and King Kong (1965), he was last seen in Paappi Devataa (1995). Thus he spent exactly three decades in the film scene though was not quite so active. He played the role of rapist in many number of movies like Dev Anand - Hema Malini starrer Joshiley. He was also seen ‘trying to impress’ the lead actress in most of his film roles.

Roopesh displayed his acting histrionics in Bollywood movies such as Kal Aaj Aur Kal, Andaaz, Seetha Aur Geetha, Rampur ka Laxman, Nagin, Jeevan Mrityu, Loafer, Doosra Aadmi, Red Rose, Hum Paanch, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Daata, Sapno Ka Saudagar (1968), Sharaafat, Chacha Bhateeja and The Great Gambler. He also produced and directed three films. Meri Aan released in 1993 was his last film as a film maker, and the movie starred Sanjay Dutt in lead role. Roopesh and his cousin Mumtaz shared the screen space for the movies – Naagin, Dharkan, Tarzan and King Kong, Aadmi Aur Inssan, Tarazu etc.

Though a small time actor, he has worked with all leading actors and actresses of his time. Though produced and directed three films, he couldn’t achieve success. He is still remembered for those memorable character roles he played on big screen.
