Rohit Sharma Biography

Rohit Sharma is an Indian cricketer who is a right handed middle order batsman and right arm off break bowler. He plays for the Mumbai team in the domestic cricket. He started playing international matches at his age of 20 and is noted for his stroke play.

 

Rohit Sharma was born on 30th April 1987 in Nagpur in Maharashtra. His father’s name is Gurunath P. Sharma and his mother’s name is Purnima Sharma. He has one younger brother who has studied hotel management. His parents are from Andhra Pradesh and his mother tongue is Telugu.

 

He did his schooling at Our Lady of Vailankanni High School in Mumbai and later joined the Swami Vivekanand International School. After noticing his talents, the school cricket coach Dinesh Lad gave him initial coaching during a summer camp.

 

He made his international ODI debut on 23rd June 2007 against Ireland and his T20 debut on 19th September 2007 against England. He plays for Mumbai team in the domestic cricket and from 2008 to 2010 he represented Deccan Chargers team in the IPL matches and in 2011 he was bought by the Mumbai Indians.

 

His List A debut was in March 2006 against Central Zone in the Deodhar Trophy. He represented West Zone and he scored 142 off 123 balls against the North Zone team in the same tournament which made him popular very soon. Then he played for Champions Trophy and Ranji Trophy and was selected for Challenger Trophy also.

 

He made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2006-07 seasons and scored 205 off 267 balls in the match against Gujarat. In 2008 IPL season, he served as the vice-captain of the Deccan Chargers team and was considered to be the best Under 23 player of the tournament. He has scored 404 runs with an average of 36.72 in the 2008 IPL.

 

In December 2009, he scored triple century in the Ranji Trophy that made him recalled to the national ODI team in the tri-nations tournament held at Bangladesh. His scored his first ODI century on 28th May 2010 in the match against Zimbabwe with 114 runs and in the tri-series he again scored 101 not out in the match against Sri Lanka on 30th May 2010.
