Rohit Dhawan Biography

Rohit Dhawan is a young and budding film director and screenwriter associated with Bollywood cinema. He is the son of ace filmmaker of Hindi cinema since 1990s – David Dhawan, who has made many hit comedies with Govinda, Salman Khan and other actors. His younger brother Varun Dhawan is also an established young actor of Bollywood known for the movies Badlapur, Dilwale, Student of the year etc. Rohit made his directorial debut with the film - Desi Boyz starring Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Deepika Padukone and Chitrangada Singh in 2011. Dishoom starring John Abraham is his upcoming flick.

Rohit Dhawan was born into a well-established film family. He is the elder son of famous film producer and director, David Dhawan and his wife Karuna Dhawan. His younger brother - Varun Dhawan is a youth icon of Bollywood at present. Noted actor Anil Dhawan is his uncle. Rohit married Jaanvi Desai in February 2012. Following his father’s footsteps Rohit too reached film industry as a director. He earlier assisted Farhan Akhtar for the film Don 2 in second unit. He also worked as associate director of his father for Bollywood blockbuster starring Govinda and Katrina Kaif – Partner, before he worked with Farhan Akhtar.

Desi Boyz starring Akshay Kumar and John Abraham was released in 2011. A bold subject, the movie received mixed response from critics. However the movie fared well at box office. He returns to Bollywood after a long break of 5 years with his latest flick – Dishoom. The movie is slated to release in July 2016. He teams up with John Abraham for his second film, Dishoom - an action-adventure film, and the movie also stars his younger brother Varun Dhawan playing parallel lead. The movie also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Akshaye Khanna. Rohit is the second cousin of director Punit Malhotra and nephew of actress Rashmi Dhawan.
