Richard Rishi Biography

Richard Rishi is a noted south Indian actor, associated with films. He works in all south Indian language films, predominantly in Tamil. He is the elder brother of south Indian actresses, Shalini Ajith and Shamili, and megastar Ajith Kumar is his brother-in-law. Similar to his sisters, he too started his career in the early 1990s as a child artist, worked in different language films, and later moved to adult roles. He was seen in Mani Rathnam’s critically acclaimed Anjali where he shared screen space with his younger sister Shamili, then known as Baby Shamili. He worked in Telugu movie - Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari along with his sisters Shamili and Shalini. A Film by Aravind, a Telugu film in 2005 gave him the big break to his acting journey.

This actor is popularly known as Rishi. He was born to Chennai-settled Malayali parents Babu and Alice on 20 October 1977. Though he is elder to both Shalini and Shamili, the first one to enter big screen was Shalini, who was then known by the name. She was the most established child artist in south Indian cinema in the 1980s. Shamili followed her sister’s footsteps and was the second sibling from the family to enter films. Elder brother joined films only later in the year 1990, with Maniratnam’s movie, Anjali.

He played one among the child friends in Anjali, and also shared screen space with Shamili. He worked with both his sisters in Telugu blockbuster, Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari, starring Sridevi and Chiranjeevi. After working with his sisters in two movies in the year 1990, he took a break from his acting journey. He returned to films in 1999 with the movie, Swapnalokam. Since then he has been active on silver screen, though received only limited success. Some of his projects got delayed as well. Pazhaya Vannarapettai, Andaman, Dr Chakravarty etc are among his recent releases.
