Resul Pookutty Biography

Resul Pookutty is an Indian film sound designer, sound editor and mixer from Kollam, who came to limelight with Oscar award for the movie Slum dog Millionaire (Sound mixing category) in the year 2009. He won BAFTA Award for Best Sound as well. He shared this award along with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke. Next year he won National Film Award for Best Audiography for his work in Malayalam historic movie, Pazhassi Raja. Now he is an international star and works for many international projects. He is perhaps the most talented sound engineer of India at present. His Bollywood projects include - Musafir (2004), Zinda (2006), Traffic Signal (2007), Gandhi, My Father (2007), Saawariya (2007) and Dus Kahaniyaan (2007). In 2002, he received Zee Cine Award for Best Sound Design for his work in Ra.One. Indian government honoured him with Padma Shree in the year 2010.

Resul was born in 1971 in a small village, Vilakkupara, near Punalur, Kerala state. He was the youngest of eight children born in a middle class family. His father was a private bus ticket checker. Resul had to walk long distance to reach school and he used to study in the light of a kerosene lamp as his village had no electricity long back in 1970’s. Though he joined Law College, Thiruvananthapuram he discontinued his studies. Later graduate from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in the year 1995. Then he moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in sound design. After winning the Academy awards, he completed his law studies.

 
His debut movie was a low budget - Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One, released in 1997. He had to struggle a lot in Bollywood till the movie - Black happened to him in 2005. After than Resul haven’t looked back and became the top name of this field. His sound effects played a significant role in the success of the movie ‘Black’ too!
