Renuka Shahane Biography

Renuka Shahane is a popular television anchor most popular for Doordarshan cultural program Surabhi that has been telecasted in Doordarshan during 90’s. She, along with Sidharth Kak has contributed a lot for the success of the program. Surabhi was successfully telecasted in Doordarshan for long 8 years, from 1993 to 2001. She has also played love interest of Shah Rukh Khan in the serial Circus long back in 1990. She has also played the lead role of Doordarshan serial Imtihaan during early 90’s and was quite popular too. Her role as a strong-willed woman was widely appreciated too. She was popular for her simple smiles and innocent looks.

 

Among her movies, her most remarkable rob was that of 1994 blockbuster hit Hum aapke hain kaun, where she played Madhuri Dixit’s elder sister’s role. She won her first Filmfare nomination for best supporting actress as well, though she couldn’t win it. Renuka Shahane is married to actor Ashutosh Rana, popular villain of Bollywood screen and has two kids. She has also tried her luck as a director and the Marathi movie – Rita was her directorial debut.

 

Renuka Shahane was born on March 27, 1965 in Maharashtra. She studied Arts from Mithibai College. Shahane started her career with the Marathi film Hach Sunbaicha Bhau and did a series of Marathi movies as well. She played role opposite SRK in the Doordarshan serial Circus. Shah rukh Khan was not a known face that time and she played his heroine’s role. Then she was offered the anchor’s role in the program Surabhi, when Doordarshan was the only TV channel available that time.

 

With the success of the movie Hum aapke hain kaun, she came to limelight. She played Mohnish Bahl’s wife role and Salman Khan’s Sister-in-law. Everyone loved her innocent looks and her new avatar as ‘Bhabhi’.  She won a Filmfare nomination as well. She was successful in her next venture ‘Masoom’ (1996) too. Yet she concentrated on television serials than movies that time. Her other Bollywood movies include - Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa (2004), Ek Alag Mausam (2003), Tunnu Ki Tina (1997) and Money (1995).  Her popular television serials include Imtihaan, 9 Malabar Hill, Kora Kaagaz, Jeete Hain Jiske Liye, Sailaab, Mrs.Madhuri Dixit and Ghutan.
