Renjith Maheshwary Biography

Renjith Maheshwary is an Indian sportsman who concentrates in the triple jump event. He represented India in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics but failed to accomplish in both of them.

 

Renjith Maheshwary was born on 30th January 1986 in Channanikadu in Kottayam in Kerala. His father’s name is Radhakrishnan. H showed interest in athletics from his young age and was initially coached by Evegeniy Shivili. He attended the summer camp organized by the Kerala Sports Council when he was 9 years old. His coach there named VA George encouraged him to become an athlete.

 

He represented India in 2006 Asian Games and ended up in fourth place. He won medal in the 2007 Asian Championships with a jump of 17.19 meters and he tried his luck in Beijing Olympics 2008 also but his performance was very poor as he was suffering an injury at that time. Later after undergoing many physiotherapy sessions, he entered the game again.

 

He met Surekha, the pole vaulter at the Asian Games camp in New Delhi in 2004 and married her in 2009. They have a daughter named Khiya. Maheshwary is employed in the railways as chief ticket officer and Surekha is also working in railways as reservation supervisor. He has one younger sister named Adheena and younger brother named Abhijit.

 

He won bronze medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the triple jump event and gold medal in Asian Grand Prix 2012. His triple jump of 17.07 meters in the 2010 Commonwealth Games is an Indian national record. He fared very poorly in the 2012 London Olympics with three consecutive foul jumps. After Beijing Olympics he was tested positive for drug usage and was suspended for six months.
