Remo Dsouza Biography

Remo D'Souza is an established choreographer from Bollywood. He occasionally appears in movies as well. He is also a successful director of Bollywood whose both directorial ventures – ABCD: Anybody can dance and F.A.L.T.U became successful at box-office. He has also directed one Bengali movie - Lal Pahare'r Katha. He frequently appears in television reality shows as guest and judge. As a choreographer his noted movies are – Besharam, Kaminey, London dreams, Double damaal, Aryan,Dhoom, Dil diya hai, Tum mile, Rock on!, Welcome, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Tom Dick And Harry, 36 China town, Kaante, Tum bin, Rang de basanti, Tehzeeb, Meenaxi, Chameli, Aakhen, De taali, Awarapan, Apna Sapna Money Money and Bas ek pal. He has been associated in many of Rahman’s compositions.

 

Remo D'Souza’s real name is Ramesh Gopi. He was born on 2 April 1974 in Jamnagar, Gujarat. He converted his name to Remo D'Souza when he changed his religion to Christianity. His wife’s name is Lizelle. He has contributed to Hindi and Bengali film industry as an actor, choreographer and film director. In 2010, he appeared aside Madhuri Dixit and Karan Johar to judge the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (season 5 and 6). Along With Geeta Kapoor and Terrence Lewis, he has judged the first three seasons of dance reality show, Dance India Dance. In 2003, his choreographed song, Meharbaan composed by Rahman for the movie, Tehzeeb won him technical award. In the year 2007, his directorial venture Lal Pahare'r Katha (Bengali) won him Asian Film Festival Awards – Dubai for best director. He has appeared in movies - ABCD: Any Body Can Dance and Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities.

 

D’Souza hasn’t received any formal training in dancing. He got the experience from only music videos and movies songs. He left his studies in the middle and set to Mumbai to pursue a career in dancing. He started a dancing institute with the name ‘Super brates’. Very soon he got opportunity to work as a background dancer. Rangeela was his first break, followed by Pardes and Aflatoon. It was the beginning of his career. He is currently working to make India's first 3D Dance Movie with the contestants of Dance India Dance.
