Rekha Vedavyas Biography

Rekha Vedavyas, also known as Akshara is a south Indian film actress who predominantly appears in Kannada movies. She started her career as a model and made her acting debut in the 2001 Kannada film Chitra. Till now she has appeared in over 30 films in various South Indian languages except Malayalam. In 2012, for the movie Govindaya Namaha, she won SIIMA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. She was seen in a supporting role in the female-oriented Three Roses that featured Rambha, Jyothika and Laila Mehdin in the lead.

 

Rekha was born and brought up in Bangalore, Karnataka. She did her schooling at the Basava Residential Girls School in Kengeri of her hometown. Later she did BBA correspondence course from the University of Madras. It was during this time when she started accepting modelling assignments. In 2001 she debut with Ramoji Rao productions’ college drama, Chitra in which she played a NRI student. Same year she appeared in the Kannada remake of Tamil movie, Sethu – Hutcha. She made her debut in Telugu cinema with Sreenu Vaitla's Anandam which was a commercial hit. Her single Hindi release is Mudda with Arya Babbar.

 

She was the heroine of actor Ganesh in his first two movies - Chellata and Hudugaata, both were commercial successes. She starred in the bilingual Ninna Nedu Repu / Netru Indru Naalai and in Ramesh Arvind's directorial Accident, and both these movies received critics’ appreciation. Benki Birugali, Appu Pappu, Boss, Prema Chandrama, Jolly Boy and Govindaya Namaha are her recent Kannada releases. She has also done cameo appearance in Kannada movies like - Raaj the Showman, Mast Maja Madi, Yogi, Genius and Tamil movie - Nenjirukkum Varai.
