Ravi Mariya Biography

Ravi Mariya is a south Indian film actor known for negative and character roles. He predominantly works in Tamil and Malayalam cinema and has also scripted and directed two movies. He gave the first break to actor Jiiva, who became very popular later. The movie was Aasai Aasaiyai released in 2002 and the same movie marked his directorial debut too. In 2010, he directed one more movie – Milaga and he played cameo roles in both these movies too. He wrote the film script of Tamil films – Aalwar in 2007 and Sandai in 2008. As an actor, he made his debut with Tamil blockbuster Khushi in 2000 playing a bit role and is associated with film industry since then.

Ravi Mariya was born in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. After doing an uncredited role in 2000 Tamil blockbuster Khushi and its Telugu version, he made his directorial debut with 2002 detective film - Aasai Aasaiyai. He also scripted his debut flick. Though the movie did not fare well at the box office, it gave some decent reviews for its lead actor Jiiva who made a promising debut with the film. As his debut film was a flop, he decided to switch to acting roles and succeeded. Ravi mostly portrayed negative roles on silver screen and has acted in both Malayalam and Tamil films.

Some of his noted performances in Malayalam movies are Mission 90 Days and Kurukshetra, both war films directed by Major Ravi. Vijay - Mohanlal starrer Jilla is one of his breakthrough performances where he played villain’s role. He was seen in a new avatar – a bald look for the movie. New, Veyil, Maathi Yosi, Manam Kothi Paravai, Mayandi Kudumbathar, Desingu raja, Vanna Jigina, Linga and Boologam are a few more noted roles. He is planning to direct one movie with Vimal as the lead actor.
