Ranjith (singer) Biography

Ranjith is a successful singer of south Indian film industry who sings in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam language films. He was introduced to playback singing by Mani Sharma in the year 2002 through the song, "Adugu Adugu" for the Telugu film Bobby (2002) where he got opportunity to sing aside veteran singer, Hariharan. He has also composed one devotional album consisting of Ayyappa Namaskara Slokas and the album titled Saranam Ayyappa was released in the year 2005.

Ranjith was born in Chennai to a Malayalam speaking Keralite family. His full name is Ranjith K. Govind and his parents belong to Kalluvazhi, Kerala. He is married to a trained Bharata Naatiyam dancer, Reshmi Menon and the couple has one daughter. From early childhood he was interested in music and grown up listening to tunes. Thus he got early training in both Hindustani and Carnatic music under different gurus, Vidwan Cuddalore Subramanian, K. S. Kanakasingam, Trichur P. Ramankutty and P. S. Narayana Swamy. He won singing reality show, Sun TV Saptha Swarangal singing contest in 2001.

Telugu movie, Bobby marked his debut as a playback singer. He sang "Hey Penne" from Aasai Aasaiyai (2002) that marked his Tamil playback debut. "Suppose" from the film Sukran (2005) gained him popularity. Innoru Paattonnu Paadaan" for the film Kilukkam Kilukilukkam in 2007 marked his Malayalam debut. The romantic track, Kaanamullal of Salt N' Pepper where he sang aside Shreya Ghosal, is his most popular Malayalam song. He has sung maximum hits for Tamil and a few of his hit songs are - Jingunamani Jingunamani of Jilla, Nee Otha Sollu Sollu of Aval Peyar Thamizharasi, Indha Payanathil of Poi Solla Porom, Senthamizh Pesum Azhagu of Santosh Subramaniam and Nee Otha Sollu Sollu of Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai.
