Randhir Kapoor Biography

Randhir Kapoor – the elder son of Raj Kapoor is a popular Bollywood actor and has worked in many movies during 1960’s and 1970’s. His wife Babita was a popular heroine that time and his daughters are onscreen divas of present Bollywood – Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. His brothers Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor are successful in the industry too. He is an integral part of great Kapoor family who has given valuable contributions to Bollywood. Ranbir Kapoor is his nephew.

Raj Kapoor launched him to acting field under their own home production company R.K.Films with the movie ‘Aaj kal aur kal’ (1971). His future wife acted opposite him and this movie formed an assembled star cast of Kapor family consisting of 3 generations of Kapoors – Pritviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor, which itself is a history.

Next year saw the release of 3 big movies of Randhir – Jeet, Jawani Diwani and Rampur ka Laxman. All movies became successful and most important, all the songs became popular, particularly R.D.Burman tunes of Jawani Diwani. Jaya Bhaduri was the heroine of the movie. In Rampur ka Laxman, Rekha played the heroine’s role. This movie was one among her first movies, before she reformed herself to a diva.

After that a series of Randhir movies were released during 70’s and he tasted sweetness of success and sourness of failure almost equal. He was the third most paid actor along with Dharmendra till middle 70’s. He has find himself in a few successful multi-star cast (two-hero) movies like Kasme Wade and Pukar (Amitabh Bachchan), Haath ki safai (Vinod Khanna), Heeralal Pannalal (Sashi kapoor) and Chacha bhatija (Dharmendra). He played the role of main hero in 34 movies of which 23 were successful at box office. Yet his status as single hero movies declined and during 1980’s he quit acting. He entered production field and produced blockbuster Ram tere ganga maili and Henna. He has also produced the movies Prem Gandh and Aa ab laut chalein which marked the directorial debut of his brothers Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor respectively. Both movies were done under R.K. banner and proved disasters at box office.

Most recently we have seen him in movies like House full sequels and Action Replay – both Akshay Kumar movies.
