Ramkumar Ganesan Biography

Ramkumar Ganesan is a film producer associated with Tamil movies, best known as the eldest son of legendary Tamil actor Sivaji Ganesan. He owns a film company named ‘Sivaji productions’ which was established by his father, Sivaji.  His younger brother Prabhu Ganesan is an established actor of Tamil language. Noted actor Vikram Prabhu of Kumki fame is his nephew. His son Dushyanth Ramkumar has appeared in a few movies like Success and Machi, while his one more son - Shivaji Dev has also made his film debut with Singakutty in 2008.

 

As a film producer, Ramkumar’s debut film is Aruvadai Naal (1986) and later produced many movies starring his younger brother Prabhu. The blockbuster Chandramukhi in 2005 remains the most successful film of his productions, where Prabhu played a pivot role. Aasal starring Ajith Kumar is another noted movie which was a huge hit.   

 

Ramkumar was born to doyen of Tamil cinema - Sivaji Ganesan and Kamala Ganesan as their elder son. He has two younger sisters and one brother Prabhu. After graduation in Business Administration from Vivekananda College, he started working in the production company started by his father. His uncle V. C. Shanmugham was looking after the company then and following his death, Ramkumar took over the Sivaji Productions, aside his younger brother Prabhu. ‘Sivaji productions’ produced several Tamil hits, mostly starring Prabhu in the lead role.

 

Ramkumar has also done a few cameo roles for his production ventures. Aruvadai Naal and My Dear Marthandan are among the noted character roles he played for Prabhu movies. Most recently in 2015, he was seen in a negative shaded role in director Shankar's I, starring Vikram playing the pivot role of Indra Kumar, an industrialist who owns a cola company. He also appeared in his own production – Chandramukhi – Tamil remake of Manichitrathazhu, where he was seen in the song sequence “Devuda Devuda”.
