Ramchandra P. N Biography

Ramchandra P. N is a film director from Udupi, Karnataka. He makes short films and documentaries as well and has also won numerous awards. He is known for being a part of Indian parallel cinema (or art cinema). He has also directed a few television programs. Ramchandra Perampalli Neckar is his full name. 'Putaani Party’ won National award for best children’s film in the year 2009. In 2004, his short film Heart Troubles of Ramchand Yavathmal Tirchuinapalli Azamghar won the best short film at the Abuja International Film Festival, Nigeria. His Tulu film Suddha Best Indian Film at the Osian's Cinefan Festival of Asian Films at Delhi in the year 2005.

Ramchandra was born in Udupi in the year 1965 as the son of P. N. Venkat Rao who worked in the Life Insurance Corporation of India. After doing schooling at several schools, he completed graduation in commerce from Mangalore University. While studying in Poornaprajna College, he got involved with arts. Though became unsuccessful with learning guitar and performing yakshagana, he became popular as a stage actor. He became successful in still photography as well, a passion he developed during his college days. Though he was successful as a stage actor, his real dream was to become a film actor and became an active member of Chitra Samudaya, a Film society. At the age of 19, he along with his cousin and their friends made a short film called Happy Birthday.

His interest in film making took him to many film appreciation courses held at several cities south India wide and in 1987 dropping out from his Law and Charted Accounting studies, he joined the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He started with documentary films, television programs and then moved to feature films.
