Raman Mahadevan Biography

Raman Mahadevan is an Indian playback singer, lyricist and composer. He debut playback singing with the title track of Heyy Baby, pictured on a long list of Bollywood actresses. Later he was noticed for singing Kholo Kholo of Tare Zameen par, Behke behke of Aisha, Dua of No One Killed Jessica, Ik Chanas of Aarakshan, "Chandu Ki Girlfriend" of ABCD: Anybody can dance, "Sinbad The Sailor" of Rock on and "Motu Master" of Udaan. He has also released a few albums and has rendered his voice for a few jingles and television programs. It’s a misconception that he is a relative of Shankar Mahadevan, though he has been associated with him for many movies like Johny Gaddar, Aarakshan, Delhi safari, Heyy Baby, Taare zameen par, Koncham Ishtham Koncham Kashtham and Rock on!

He was born and brought up in Mumbai. His mother sings beautifully though she is not a professional singer. He completed his education in Mumbai. He took formal learning in Carnatic music from Prasanna Warrier and Girija Shesu and also learnt tabla from Palash Bordoloi. He started out by doing live stage shows and orchestras. Though he pursued a career in IT, it didn’t last too long and he left the job after three and a half year to join music industry. His first music album Ramanasia was released in 2007.

It was Shankar Mahadevan who spotted him first while Raman was performing live. He gave Raman two songs from movies – Tare Zameen par and Rock On and after these chartbuster songs, it was confirmed that he is to survive in the industry. He worked in both Bollywood and south Indian movies.
