He played club cricket during his last years and was a key figure in the revival of interest in the game in Bangladesh. Thus he was popular to Bangladeshi people too who mourned over his death.

Fully active with domestic cricket, he lost his life on 23 February 1998 in Dhakka while fielding in Bangladesh's league cricket. He was hit by a ball on his temple which resulted in his death at the Post Graduate Hospital in Dhaka in Bangladesh. Unfortunately only three balls were remaining when he was asked to field to that position and Lamba was asked to wear a helmet which he didn’t do. The injury was not serious. But Lamba slipped into coma following an internal hemorrhage. He was declared dead after three days in ventilator. He was survived with his wife Kim Michelle Crothers, Irishwoman and two kids. The family is now settled in Portugal. They were married since 1990.

Lamba was born on 2 January 1960 at Meerut. He started his professional career in domestic matches with late 1970s and played his first Ranji trophy match in 1980. He continued playing Ranji matches for more than 17 years till his death in 1998. He scored 6362 runs at an average of 53.91 in 87 Ranji matches. Lamba's highest score 320* came in the Duleep Trophy Final in 1987-88. He made his international debut as the 1986 Australasia Cup final where he played as substitute fielder and took one memorable catch. For his first match he took 64 runs and made his first and last century in the same series. He was finally declared Man of the series.

Though Lamba played some outstanding matches, he couldn’t sustain in national team for long. He played excellent in Ranji matches and believed that he would be called back. But it never happened. So Lamba continued with first class games, till the game itself took his life away at a young age.
