Rama Prabha Biography

Rama Prabha is a veteran Telugu actress known for supporting and comic roles. She has been successfully paired with great comedian onscreen, Raja Babu and this noted pair has given many memorable scenes during 1970’s and 1980’s till the death of Raja Babu. In seventies and eighties, irrespective of the lead star, their pair was common in all the films. They formed the successful combination pair after Relangi – Girija. She was born in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh in 1947. Since her debut in the late 1960’s, she is active in the film industry in character roles till now. Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu and Ongole Githa are her latest releases, both released in 2013. In a career spanning to about 5 decades, she has shared screen space with almost all leading stars of the industry.

She was born in a middle class family and was raised by her aunt. Though born in Andhra Pradesh, most of her time was spent in Ooty and Chennai. As her uncle and aunt spent so much time in travelling, it spoiled her studies. But it helped her to be close with nature and environment. She didn’t even dream about joining film industry. But with the sudden demise of her uncle, everything went upside down. That’s how she stepped into movies. She is also a trained classical dancer. Once filmmaker Pratyegatma noticed her skills and offered me the role of sister to hero Krishnam Raju in his film Chilaka Gorinka (1966). Thus she entered film field.

She was casted opposite Padmanabham, an established star in her debut movie. Since beginning days, she appeared in supporting roles and got type casted. But through her association with comedy king, Raja Babu, she has made a distinct signature in Tollywood. And this actress believes that if she had appeared onscreen in lead roles, she would have disappeared very long ago.
