Ram Swarup Biography

Ram Swarup was an author and a Hindu thinker. He strongly supported Hinduism through his works, and stood against Christianity, Islam and Communism. He worked for Mahatma Gandhi's disciple Mira Behn in 1948-1949 after the death of Mahatma Gandhi. He was a freedom fighter who is known for his helps provided to Aruna Asaf Ali. The Word As Revelation: Names of Gods published in 1980 is one of his noted works. He started a non-profitable publishing house Voice of India in 1982 and published works of authors like K.S. Lal, Koenraad Elst, Rajendra Singh, Harsh Narain, Shrikant Talageri etc. Swarup’s works have influenced many authors later.

Ram Swarup was born in 1920 in Sonipat, Haryana. His father was a banker. He completed graduation in Economics in the year 1941. In the 1940s he was associated with freedom struggle movement.  He started the Changer's Club in 1944 which included many prominent figures like Sita Ram Goel. In those days he also authored a book on Communist Party, though used another name for publishing. He started the Society for the Defence of Freedom in Asia in 1949 which published and reviewed many books from West.

As an author and publisher he has given some outstanding contributions to Gujarat. He authored many books on Mahatma Gandhi in the 1940s and 1950s which include - Mahatma Gandhi and His Assassin (1948), Gandhism and Communism (1954), Gandhian Economics (1977) etc. But later his works mostly drawn towards Hinduism and also criticized Islam and Christianity. Buddhism vis-a-vis Hinduism, Hinduism vis-a-vis Christianity and Islam, Hindu View of Christianity and Islam, Hindu-Sikh Relationship, Ramakrishna Mission: Search for a New Identity, Cultural Alienation and Some Problems Hinduism Faces etc were among his noted works.
