Ram Ratan Bhatnagar Biography

Ram Ratan Bhatnagar was an Indian poet and scholar. He was a professor in the Hindi Department at the University of Sagar and was a poet and critic of Hindi literature. His works include poem collections, criticisms, sankalan, essays and novels. He received Doctor of literature at the University of Sagar in 1972. He wrote books on literary criticism and essays on current topics.

 

Bhatnagar was born on January 14, 1914, Rampur, UP. After schooling, he completed his degree in English from Lucknow. During this time, he became inspired with Hindi writer Nirala and started writing. Apart from close contact with Nirala, he also came close with Hindi writers like Sumitranandan Pant, Mahadevi Varma and Ram Kumar Verma. Later he completed Master of Philosophy in English at the University of Lucknow (1937), Master of Philosophy in Hindi at the University of Allahabad (1939) and Doctor of Philosophy at same University (1948). He focused on the growth of Hindi journalism during this period. 5 editions of Nibandh Prabodh and 3 editions of Sur Sahitya ki Bhumika (Vachispati Tripathi) are the earliest of his works.

 

He joined University of Saugor as Assistant Professor in Hindi in 1951, where he worked till his retirement in 1976. He was retired as professor. Though he has authored poems as well as critics’ works, many of his poetry works are yet to be published. He is better known for his contributions to essays as well as critic works and sankalan on culture, based on researches. A few of his sankalan works include - Aadhunik Kahaniyan, Ruparang, Nikash and Antarang.

 

His released poetry works include – Tandav, Nirala, Geeton ke Amaltas, Prakash Jahan Bhi Hai, Venu geet and Thulsidas. Ambapali, Aakash ki Katha and Jay Vasudev are his released novels and other noted works include - Madhyayugin Vaisnav Sanskrati aur Tulasidas, Hindi Sahitya ka Sankshipt Itihas, Prabandh Prabhakar, Mulya aur Mulyankan, Kamayani, Upnyasakar Jainendra, Kabir : Ek Adhyayan, Tulasi Sahitya ki Bhumika, Bhartendu: Ek Adhyayan and Malik Muhamad Jayasi.
