Ram Mohan Biography

Ram Mohan is a pioneer of animation in India, who completed 50 years in this career. Most recently he was awarded the Padma Shri the fourth-highest civilian award given by Government of India in 2014. As a stalwart of the Indian animation industry, he started his career in 1956, associated with Cartoon Films Unit of FDI. Many of his films won numerous National and International Awards. He is a recipient of National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Animation Film twice, You Said It (1972) and Fire Games (1983). In 1969 he received National Award for the Best Film on family planning for “Baap Re Baap”. He founded Graphiti Multimedia in 1995. He is regarded as the guru and father of Indian animation industry and known as the mentor and inspiration to many new artists later.

 

After graduation he moved to Mumbai to continue his studies. But instead he joined Films Division of India of Indian government in Cartoon Films Unit where he received training from Clair Weeks of Walt Disney Studios. Bhimsain Khurana too joined at the same time. Later his journey included so many titles and recognitions including renowned motion pictures of Bollywood. It also includes many positions including Chief of Animation at Prasad Productions, animation work Ramayan with collaboration of Yogo Sako from Japan and Ram Mohan Biographics, set up in 1995. He is the chairman of studio Graphiti Multimedia since 2002. He was honoured with Lifetime Achievement award at the Mumbai International Film Festival, 2006.

 

He set up Graphiti School of Animation in Mumbai in 2006, where extensive training is given to students. A few the noted works of Graphiti Multimedia include - the ad for Top Ramen noodles and J Bole To Jadoo, an animated series.
