Rakesh Bedi Biography

Rakesh Bedi is a comedian of Indian cinema as well as television. He is most known for his comedy roles in films like Chashme Buddoor (1981), and television series, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984), Shrimaan Shrimati (1995) and Yes Boss (1999 -2009). Now he is the life member of International Film And Television Club of Asian Academy Of Film & Television. He has been active in film and theatre works since 1971 and has done more than 150 movies and a few television serials. He has also appeared in television serials, Zabaan Sambhalke, FIR and Hum Sab Ek Hain.

Bedi’s father Babu Kanshi Ram was an employee of Indian railways. He studied in Delhi and was active in theatre since school days. Later has worked with theatre group Pierrot's Troupe in New Delhi. He studied acting at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune before entering cinema. He debut silver screen in the 1979 movie - Hamare Tumhare of Sanjeev Kumar. 1981 film Chashme Buddoor was his big break to the industry. He worked in this comic movie aside a group of actors - Farooq Shaikh, Deepti Naval, Ravi Baswani and Saeed Jaffrey. He played the role of Farooq Shaikh’s friend and room mate in this movie. His character name was Omi.

Later he appeared in character roles in noted movies like Ek duje ke liye, Teesri Aankh, Lovers, Kalakar, Pyaar Mein Sauda Nahin, Do gulaab, Hum Hain Lajawaab, Teri kasam, Sohni Mahiwal, Naseeb Apna Apna , Dadagiri, Pyaar Mohabbat, Parbat Ke Us Paar, Benaam badshah, Tiranga, Aashiq Awara, Teesra kaun, Dulara, Bewafa Sanam, Diljale, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Deewane Huye Paagal, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Hudh kade aapne, Hatya, Ram teri ganga maili, Main Tera Dushman, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Saath saath and Painter babu. He appeared in friend’s role in numerous movies during 1980’s. His role in Hum Hain Lajawaab as Marorimal Karodimal Thakkatram Makhanwala was a noted role during 1980’s.
