Rajshekhar Biography

Rajshekhar is a young lyricist associated with Bollywood film industry. He wrote the lyrics of Bollywood super hit film – Tanu Weds Manu, and its sequel, Tanu weds Manu Returns. Both the movies were directed by Anand L. Rai. This young writer has also written numerous children’s stories. He has been exposed to theater and literature and has developed deep interest in reading since his younger days. He has also played cameo roles in Bollywood movies – Anwar and Ghanchakkar. He has also worked as an assistant director to Anand L. Rai, Abbas Tyrewala and Sujoy Ghosh for the movies, Tanu weds manu, Jaane tu ya jaane na and Home Delivery.

 

Rajshekhar was born on 22 September 1980 in a small village Madhepura, Bihar. His parents were farmers, and Rajshekhar used to spend his time before radio, as electricity came to this remote only a few years ago. He wanted to become a director and his parents fully supported his decision. He graduated in Hindi literature from Kirori Mal College, Delhi. He also took Master’s from Delhi University. He has been active in theatre as an actor, playwright and also direction. He also wrote poetry works. He also wrote several popular stories for children whichs include - Roo Roo Raat, Five Little Monkeys, Being Wise etc.

 

He made his debut to Bollywood as a lyricist through the romantic film, Tanu Weds Manu in 2011 starring R. Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut. All the songs were penned by Rajshekhar and its songs - "Sadi Gali", "Yun Hi", “Piya”, "Rangrez", "Mannu Bhaiya" and “Jugni” were instant hit. In the sequel released in 2016, he penned lyrics for all the songs too. The movie included hit tracks like - "Banno", “Mari Gali", "O Sathi Mere", "Old School Girl", "Ghani Bawri" and "Ho Gaya Hai Pyar". Krsna Solo composed music for both the parts.

 

It took eleven months for the lyricist to pen lyrics for Tanu Weds Manu. He went off social media completely, to fully concentrate on to writing. In between the time gap of two movies, he wrote many television scripts and also dialogues for films, and children’s stories. He is a great fan of Gulzar and Javed Akhtar.
