Rajnath Singh Biography

Rajnath Singh is an influential political leader belonging to Bhartiya Janatha party. He had a long term association with nationalist organization, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Janata Party. He serves as the current president of Bharatiya Janata Party. He has also served as president of the BJP youth wing and the BJP's unit of UP. He has served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh during the period, 2000-2002. He was the first Education Minister in the first BJP government for the state of Uttar Pradesh. He has elected twice as the MLA from Haidargarh. In 2003 he became the Union Minister of Agriculture. He has served as BJP president for two terms. He was credited for getting first BJP government in south India.

He was born in a small village, Bhabhaura of Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh to a farmer family. He completed Master’s in Physics from Gorakhpur University and later worked as a physics lecturer in Mirzapur. During this period and college days, he was actively involved in politics and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He became the secretary for the Mirzapur unit of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh in the year 1974. The following year he became District President of the Jana Sangh at a young age of 24. He contested Loksabha elections for the first time in 1977 and he was declared winner from Mirzapur constituency.

In 1984, he became the state president of the youth wing and two years later he was appointed national general secretary of the youth wing. He became National President in the BJP youth in 1988 and became the first educational minister of BJP in 1991. From there on, he gained power as an influential leader of the party.
