Rajeshwari Sachdev Biography

Rajeshwari Sachdev is a film actress and pop singer. She is known for her excellent performance in parallel cinema. In 1996, she won National awards for best supporting actress for her role in Sardari Begum. She is married to popular television actor, Varun Badola. She co-hosted the Zee TV musical show, Titan Antakshari from 1994 to 2001. In 2005, she participated in dance reality show, Nach baliye aside her husband. Her popular album songs are Hulle hullare hulle hulle and Mukra piya ka wai kya. She was featured in both these music videos of late 1990’s.

Rajeshwari was born 14 April 1975 in Mumbai. Her father is from Punjab, while her mother a south Indian. She completed graduation from Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Mumbai. She started her acting career through theatre plays and worked with IPTA as an artist. She made her film debut with Marathi film 'Aayatya Gharat Gharoba' (1991) directed by Sachin. Shyam Benegal's critically well acclaimed movie, Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda, released in the following year was her second movie. Later Shyam repeatedly casted her in his movies like Mammo (1994), Sardari Begum (1996), Samar (1999), Hari-Bhari (2000), Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero (2005) and Welcome to Sajjanpur (2008). She played supporting roles in all these movies. She played the role of real life character, Capt. Lakshmi Sahgal in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero. She has worked with Shabana Azmi, Rajit Kapur and Nandita Das in many of Benegal movies.

Her other movies include – Qila, Isaaq, Little Buddha, Tunnu Ki Tina, Tales of The Kama Sutra: The Perfumed Garden, Malik ek, Meri Pyaari Bahania Banegi Dulhania and Bombay to Bangkok. She also appeared in Tamil movie – Porkalam in the year 1998. Little Buddha and 7 Days in Slow Motion are her English movies. Not only her film roles, but her albums are also popular.
