Rajendra Pratap Singh Biography

Rajendra Pratap Singh is a leading politician from Uttar Pradesh belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party and currently a cabinet minister in the ministry formed by Yogi Adityanath ministry in 2017. He currently holds the portfolio of Rural Electricity Service. He is currently serving as an MLA of Uttar Pradesh state assembly representing Patti assembly constituency of Pratapgarh district, and has won the same constituency three times in a row. He has also served as UP’s Minister of Agriculture in 2003.

 

Also known as Moti Singh, Rajendra Pratap Singh was born on 21 October 1956 as the son of Bharat Singh Gandhi and Kaushalya Devi. Bela Pratapgarh is his hometown. He holds an LLB and graduation, and is a businessman by profession. His active political journey started in 1983 in his late 20s, when he got elected to Mangraura block as its chief, with a record win. He got elected in the next term also, and became a member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from Pratapgarh district in 1990.

 

He also had brief stint with Indian National Congress in the late 1980s, and contested state assembly elections for the first time in 1989 representing the party, but lost it. Bu he claimed that his votes were not counted properly and hence lost it. The case is still pending in court. He won it for the first time in 1996, and won the seat constantly in 2002, 2007 and 2017 elections. In 2003 he was given the portfolio of agriculture and he became the minister of Rural Electricity Service in Yogi Adityanath’s ministry formed in 2017. In 2016 re-elections, he lost the seat due to errors in counting, and retarded the seat in 2017 elections, and joined the cabinet.
