Rajeev (Tamil Actor) Biography

Rajeev is a south Indian film actor and dubbing artist. Associated with film industry since 1980, he has acted in all south Indian languages, predominantly in Tamil. He mostly portrayed character roles, apart from a few negative shaded ones. His role as a drunkard in K. Balachander's Kannada remake - Benkiyalli Aralida Hoovu of Aval Oru Thodar Kathai is one of his memorable roles. His role as sadistic husband in his debut Tamil film - Rail Payanangalil also needs mention. He played hero’s roles in the early 1980s and later moved to parallel lead and character roles.

 

Rajeev is the screen name of Rajasekhar from Madurai. His father worked in Indian Telephone Industries, Bangalore while his mother was a homemaker. He lost his parents before his marriage. He married Rani only through the insistence of his brothers. The couple has two children. He was drawn towards movies and acting since younger days and he started giving auditions. But it was not an easy task then, to get a break in the industry. In between he also worked as a servant at Taj Coromandel Hotel during his struggling period.

 

Telugu actor Rajendra Prasad was his classmate and he got his first break to the industry through him as a dubbing artist, which Rajeev happily accepted. Thus he marked his debut as a dubbing artist for the Tamil film - Oru Thalai Ragam, followed by Vasantha Azhaippugal. For both these movies, he dubbed for Malayalam actor Raveendran. As a film actor, he made his debut through - Rail Payanangalil in 1981, where he played the role of a sadistic husband. The movie also marked the career beginning of the lead pair - Sreenath and Jyothi.

 

Later he appeared in all south Indian language films. Ustaad, Paappi Appacha, Pottas Bomb, Elavamkodu Desam, F.I.R, Sathyam and Collector are among his noted Malayalam releases, most notably negative roles. Sivappu Mazhai, Devathayai Kanden, Jayam, Namma Veetu Kalyanam, Kaadhal Kavithai, Vaali, Manam Virumbuthe Unnai and Thodakkam are some of his Tamil releases in the recent times.
