Rajdeep Sardesai Biography

Rajdeep Sardesai is an Indian journalist and political commentator. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of IBN18 Network including CNN-IBN, IBN-7 and IBN-Lokmat. He is the ex President of Editors Guild of India and a member of the Population Council. He writes columns in many popular English dailies. He is one of the best anchors existing there.

 

He was born on 24th May 1965 in Ahmedabad in Gujarat. His father is Dilip Sardesai, the former Indian Test cricketer and mother is Nandini Sardesai, the social activist in Mumbai and head of the Department of Sociology at St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai.

 

Up to ICSE he studied at Campion School in Mumbai and continued his ISC in Cathedral School Mumbai. After completing the bachelors’ degree in Economics in St. Xavier’s College at Mumbai, he went to University College at Oxford and got his Bachelor of Arts degree, Master of Arts degree and Bachelor of Civil Law.

 

He also represented Oxford University Cricket Club in county cricket and played seven matches as a batsman in 1987. He was an active member of Christian church choirs. He married Sagarika Ghose and has two children, son Ishan and daughter Tarini. His wife is also a journalist and fellow senior editor and anchor at CNN-IBN.

 

He started his career as a television journalist in 1994 and worked as the Political Editor of New Delhi Television. He received applause for covering the Gujarat riots. He came out of NDTV and started his own company, Global Broadcast News together with American giant CNN and Raghav Bahl’s TV18. The Indian edition of CNBC is henceforth called as CNBC-TV18, Hindi consumer channel as CNBC Awaaz and the international channel as SAW. The news channel in which Sardesai works as Editor in Chief is named as CNN-IBN started on 17th December 2005. He bought major share of Channel 7 also, renaming it as IBN-7.
