Rahul Dravid Biography

Rahul Dravid is a famous cricketer and wicket keeper playing in the Indian national team since the year 1996. He served as the captain of the Indian cricket team from October 2005 to September 2010. He was honored as the ICC Player of the Year in 2004. He has taken the highest number of catches in the Test cricket.

 

Rahul Dravid was born on 11th January 1973 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and at present living in Karnataka. His parents are Sharad Dravid and Pushpa Dravid. His younger brother is Vijay. Rahul Dravid married Vijeta Pendharkar, a surgeon from Nagpur and they have two children Samit and Anvay. He studied at St. Joseph’s Boys High School and later got his degree in commerce in St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bangalore. He started his career in cricket when he was just 12. His talents were first spotted by Keki Tarapore, former cricketer and coach.

 

His Ranji Trophy debut was in February 1991 when he was still a college student. He entered national team in 1996. He has reached 12,000 runs in Test cricket next only to Sachin Tendulkar in India. On 14th February he scored 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. He is the sixth player in the world and third player in India to achieve this record. He has a track record of more than 200 catches.

 

Rahul Dravid is the top scorer in the seventh World Cup that took place in 1999 in which he scored 461 runs in all. He is the only one in India to score two consecutive centuries at the World Cup. With his intelligence and talents he could emerge as the India’s premier Test batsman. He has the reputation of the defensive batsman in Test cricket. He also started to score more in ODIs that won him the ICC player of the year award. He has a record of 31 centuries in Test cricket with 5 double centuries.
