Rahul Bose Biography

Rahul Bose is a successful actor of Bollywood films who works both as leading actor as well as in supporting roles. His best performances include – Chameli, Mr and Mrs.Iyyer, Viswaroopam, English, August, Pyar ke side effects, Kuch Love Jaisa, I am, Jhankaar beats, Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam, Mumbai Matinee, White noise, 15 Park Avenue, Silsiley, Shaurya, Midnight's Children, Laptop, Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii, Tahaan, Kaalpurush, Antaheen, Fired, The Japanese Wife and Thakshak. He is a social activist and is the founder of the anti-discrimination NGO. Time magazine called him "the superstar of Indian art house cinema" for his work in parallel cinema.

 

He is one among the most talented actors of Bollywood cinema who works for parallel and offbeat movies. Mr and Mrs.Iyyer, Chameli and English, August can be grouped under this category. His pairing with Mallika Sherawat is noted most and together they have done a series of movies like Pyar ke side effects and Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam. His pairing with Konkana sen Sharma is quite successful. Mr and Mrs.Iyyer and 15 Park Avenue are critically well acclaimed movies. He has done his debut as director with the movie - Everybody Says I'm Fine! in 2001.  

 

Rahul Bose was born in Kolkata to Rupen and Kumud Bose on 27 July 1967. After spending his childhood in Kolkata, he moved to Mumbai. He started acting in stage shows since he was 6. He was interested in sports as well. In 1998, Bose was part of the first Indian national rugby team to play in Asian Rugby Football Union Championship. He has worked as a copywriter as well as advertising creative director before entering film world. His debut movie was ‘The perfect murder’ in 1988. As hero, his first movie was English, August, followed by A Mouthful of Sky, Bomgay and Bombay Boys in the successive years. In 1999 movie Thakshak, he played negative role. Ajay devgan and Tabu were the leading stars of the movie and the movie was a failure.

 

It was his role in Chameli that proved to be the turning point of his career. He has done a few Bengali movies as well – Anuraam and Kaal purush.
