Ragini Shah Biography

Ragini Shah is a veteran theater artist associated with Gujarati theater, who also works in television and movies. She has also played supporting roles of mother and in-law in several Hindi soaps. Dugba in the daily Hindi soap Saraswatichandra is her most memorable role in Hindi television. Maasa in Diya Aur Baati Hum is yet another noted played by Ragini on small screen. Most recently she replaced deceased actress Reema Lagoo for the TV show, Naamkarann on Star Plus channel. It’s a parallel lead role. Shah has appeared in more than 50 Gujarati films and has also directed a few.

 

Ragini hails from Mumbai, Maharashtra. She was born in the year 1958. She was born into a Gujarati family, though raised in Mumbai. She was born into a family with strong art background whose association with entertainment industry began in the 1930s. Her father has worked as a music director in Gujarati cinema. Ragini's maternal grandmother and her mother were stage actresses associated with Gujarati plays, and that’s how Ragini too entered the same field. Started off with theatre, she later moved to movies, and appeared in more than 50 Gujarati films. She also played lead role in Gujarati TV drama, Moti Baa.


When opportunities turned scarce, she moved to Mumbai and worked in Hindi television shows – the industry which gave her the real recognition. She played the role of mother and similar elderly characters on small screen. She made her debut with a supporting role in Chanakya, aired on DD in the 1990s. She was a part of famous series on Sony television in the late 1990, Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka. A series of roles such as Chandan Ka Palna Resham Ki Dori, Saraswatichandra, Harun Arun, Naamkarann just followed.
