Rafeeq Ahammed Biography

Rafeeq Ahammed is a noted poet and lyricist of Malayalam. He has won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi award for Aalmara in the year 2006 and has won Kerala state awards for best lyricist four times. Eh has won it for the first time in the year 2007 for the movie – Pranayakalam. He won it again in 2009 and 2010 successively for two years for the movies – Sufi paranja katha and Sadgamaya. He repeated it again for the last year Kerala state awards too, thus proving himself to be the best lyricist of Malayalam active in the industry for the past 5 years. He won it for the last time for the movie Spirit, directed by Renjith and starred by Mohan Lal. He has also won Asianet film awards for the movie – Ustaad hotel.

Rafeeq Ahammed was born to Sajjad Hussain and Thithayikutty on December 17, 1961 in Akkikavu, Thrissur district.  He graduated in English literature from Sree Krishna College, Guruvayur. His first published book was Swapnavangmoolam in the year 1996. It was followed by poetic works - Paarayil Paninjathu (2000), Aalmara (2004), Cheettukalikkar (2007), Shivakami, Gramavrikshathile Vavval and Thoraamazha (2012). He has won Kerala Sahitya Academy awards for Aalmara. Paarayil Paninjathu earned him Ulappamanna Award in the year 2000. He has also got awards such as Edappally Award, Kunchupilla Award, Kanakasree Award and Vailoppilli Award for his literal pieces.

As a film lyrist he debut with actor Murali’s Garshom in the year 1999. His memorable songs are included in the movies – Perumazhakaalam, Out of syllabus, Garshom, Gadhama, Red wine, aarohanam, Molly aunty rocks, Bombay March 12, Nee ko na cha, 5 Sundarikal, Violin, Ritu, Bachelor party, Thirakatha, Dr. Patient, Anwar, Spirit, Pranayakala, Ustaad Hotel, Sufi paranja katha, Lucky star, Paradesi,  Kaiyoppu, Soorya kireedam, Flash, Sneha veedu, Bavuttiyude namathil,  Thirakkada, Emmanuvel, Electra, Lokpal, Cinema companyand Sadgamaya.   

Most recently songs of 5 Sundarikal, Spirit and Run baby run became instant hits. A few of his recent hits include - Attumanal Payayil of Run baby run, Ennodukoodi Vasikkunna of Emmanuvel, Chandrabimbathin of Sneha veedu and Akaluvathentino of Red wine. Now, he is most popular choice for Mammooty and Mohan lal movies.
