R. N. Sudarshan Biography

R. N. Sudarshan is a filmmaker and director associated with Kannada cinema. In a career spanning to three decades, he has acted in more than 250 movies, belonging to Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. Started off with lead roles, he later moved to villain and character roles and most recently TV soaps. He is the second son of legendary film maker and theatre artist - R. Nagendra Rao. He has three brothers of whom two are associated with film field. His second brother R. N. Krishna Prasad is a cinematographer while the third brother, R. N. Jayagopal is a screenwriter and lyricist.

R. N. Sudarshan was born as the youngest son of cine artist R. Nagendra Rao. He is married to actress, Shylashri with whom he has worked in the movies - Naguva Hoovu, Kadina Rahasya, Kallara Kalla, Malathi Madhava, etc. During his childhood days he didn't like the smell of paint and material used on film sets when his father used to take him to film sets. Little did he know that he is to become a part of celluloid later as a director and actor later. Sudarshan entered the film industry with a role in Vijayanagarada Veeraputra and stayed in the industry since then. He lost his mother in 1957 and his father took him to Chennai and got him admitted to the Madras Riding Club.

His father was his hero, who inspired him a lot throughout his career. He was launched to films by his father at the age of 21 in 1961. Vijayanagarada Veeraputra was his debut film, where he played male lead opposite B. Sarojadevi. The movie was produced and directed by his father and scripted by his brother – Jayagopal. After that he played lead roles for many movies before moving to supporting roles. Hoovondhu, Balibandhu, Thakithu Ennedheya Shubhamangala and Irabeku Irabeku Ariyada Naguva Hoovu are his hit films.
