R. N. R. Manohar Biography

R. N. R. Manohar is an actor and director associated with Tamil films. He co-directed a few movies in the early 1990s, before he turned a full-fledged director. In a career spanning to about 25 years, he has directed two Tamil films - Maasilamani (2009) and Vellore Maavattam (2011). Yet he is fully engaged in Tamil cinema in the role of a character actor. He was most recently seen in Kavan, Veera, Pichuva Kaththi, Puyala Kelambi Varom, Enakku Vaaitha Adimaigal, Rubaai etc. Manohar also wrote dialogues for a few movies like Thennavan and Punnagai Poove, while working as an assistant director in the industry.

 

He was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 1st January 1972. He started his film career in the mid-1990s working as an assistant and co-director of Tamil films. Maindhan was the first release, where he worked as a co-director, followed by Kolangal, Pudhumai Pithan and Kallazhagar. He also co-scripted these films except Kallazhagar. All these movies were released in the 1990s, when he was struggling to find a name of himself in the industry. He also marked his acting debut in the same era. He was first seen in one of the films, for which he worked as an associate – Kolangal released in 1995.

 

With early 2000s, he became more active as a character artist in films, and also a screenwriter. He played both negative and positive shade roles; Dhill, Thennavan, Ya Ya, Veeram, Salim, Kaadu, Yennai Arindhaal, Naanum Rowdydhaan, Vedalam etc to mention a few. He made his directorial debut with Maasilamani in 2009. The movie starred Nakul and Sunaina in lead roles. Maasilamani was a commercial success at the box office grossing $2 million. The following year, he directed one more film, Vellore Maavattam. This action flick completed 100 days in theatres.
