R. N. Krishna Prasad Biography

R. N. Krishna Prasad was a cine personality associated with Kannada film industry. He was known as an actor, director, cinematographer and film producer in the film industry. He was the son of R. Nagendra Rao, well-known film and theatre personality from south India. His younger brothers R. N. Sudarshan and R. N. Jayagopal are also film personality, best known as actors. Krishna Prasad was a famous cinematographer of Kannada film industry, though he worked in other language films too. As a cinematographer Krishna Prasad has won Karnataka state award.

 

Rattihalli Nagendra Rao Krishna Prasad was born in the year 1929 in British India. He was born into an artists’ family with many artists, who had close bonds with cinema and theatre. Without breaking any tradition, R. N. Krishna Prasad also joined film industry. Initially he worked as a cinematographer in the industry, earned success and later moved on to production and directorial ventures. He has also closely worked with siblings in several movies. He directed the Kannada film Naguva Hoovu starring his younger brother R. N. Sudarshan in the lead. He also bagged state award for best cinematography for this film.

 

He briefly worked in character roles in Kannada and Tamil films as well. As an actor he is best remembered for playing the pivot role of Venugopal, a wealthy industrialist in Michael Madana Kama Rajan and Kamal Hassan in four roles played his sons. Krishna Prasad passed away on 15 February 2012. He was survived by his wife Usha Prasad, and two children – Rajiv Prasad and Ratnavelu. His son Rajiv has directed one film Gautham, with Prem playing the main lead.
