R. K. Dhawan Biography 
R. K. Dhawan was an Indian politician belonging to Indian National Congress. His full name is Rajider Kumar Dhawan. A veteran in the field of politics, he acted as personal secretary and confidante to Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, particularly during Emergency period in the 1970s. Dhawan started out as Indira Gandhi’s personal assistant and was associated with her from 1962, until the day she was assassinated by Sikhs in 1984. He was also a parliamentarian, serving a term in Rajya Sabha. He passed away on 6th August 2018 aged 81.
Dhawan was born in Chiniot of present-day Pakistan in 1937. He has been associated with Indira Gandhi since 1962, and acted as her assistant during her terms as PM till her death. Though he remained a confident associative, his name was also dragged into the conspiracy which led to Indira Gandhi’s death in 1984. One of its major reasons was Dhawan knew one of the assassins, Beant Singh, who was killed by loyal troops soon after the assassination. But Dhawan denied this. It was also accused that Dhawan purportedly delayed a television interview by half an hour on the day of the assassination. This delay played a major rule in the death of Indira, which gave a major opportunity to Sikh guards to swap duties with other personnel and be in striking range of Mrs. Gandhi.
When Rajiv Gandhi came into power, he initially removed Dhawan from his post and later cleared him of all charges too. He got married in 2012 at the age of 75, ending his bachelorhood. His wife’s name is Achla. His role during Emergency period is immensely huge, and known to be a confident of Gandhi’s family for many decades, keeping many secrets of the party.
