R. D. Singh Biography

Ripudaman Singh Aulakh, shortly called R. D. Singh is an Indian athletics coach from the state of Rajasthan. He is India's First Dronacharya awardee coach for para-sports. He has served as the Chief Coach of para athletics team in Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi and 2010 Asian Para Games. One of the leading players he spotted is javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia who won two gold medals at Paralympics. Jagseer Singh, Sandeep Singh Maan, Jagdeep Singh – his nephew and Sundar Singh Gurjar are other leading para-sports players whom he trained and helped to receive achievements.

 

Ripudaman Singh Aulakh was born on 7 June 1954 in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan. Jarnail Singh Aulakh and Balwant Kaur are his parents, and Karadwala in Sriganganagar is his ancestral village. He was born into a big family of 8 children, and he is the third child to his parents. He married Inderjeet Kaur in 1986 and their single son is an electronics engineer. He completed graduation, M. A and law studies and later earned a Diploma in Coaching from National Institute of Sports at Patiala.

 

He has been athlete since school days who played Shot put, Discus throw and Basketball. He has also won gold medals in national level for all these events. While at college, he has won gold medals in athletics events like Shot put, Discus throw, Javelin Throw etc and also Handball, Volleyball etc. He has also played Basket Ball, Weightlifting etc during his college days. Thus he excelled in different kinds of sports during his academic years. Since year 1990, he runs his own hostel by the name of Dronacharya Hostel in Hanumangarh, which can accommodate up to 16 athletes at a time. It is given for poor students and also Physically Challenged athletes, free of cost.  

 

He has spotted and trained numerous students till now. He spotted Devendra Jhajharia – the popular Paralympic javelin thrower for the first time at a sports meet. Later he coached him and made him receive his first gold medal at Summer Paralympics in Athens 2004. In fact, Devendra is the first Indian player to win two gold medals at the Paralympics and only the second Indian Paralympian to win a gold at Paralympics.
