Together they have given maximum songs to Bollywood and Bollywood music is incomplete without mentioning their named that spanned over 4 decades from 1960’s to late 1990’s. They have been nominated 25 times in Filmfare, a musical record and have won it for 7 times – Dosthi, Milan, Jeene ki raah, Amar Akbar Antony, Satyam Sivam Sundaram, Sargam and Karz. Two times they have surprised music listeners as surprised winners of Filmfare. It happened when they won it first in a tight finish in 1963 for Dosthi, when Shankar Jaikishen’s Sargam and Madan Mohan’s Woh kaun thi were nominated the same year. Second one was most surprising when they beat S.D.Burman’s Aradhana in 1969 to win it for Jeene ki raah! This pair has also fully dominated Binaca Geet Maala over a long period in its life time!

Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma was born as the son of renowned trumpeter Pt. Ramprasad Sharma. He learnt the basics of music from his father and started violin at the age of 8 from Antony Gonsalves. But due to bad financial situation, he had to seek job and he used to play at studios. It’s just a miracle that he met Laxmikanth at Sureel Kala Kendra, run by Mangeshkar family. Their striking similarity in family background and same age made them thick friends. They had to struggle a lot and have also worked as assistants to many music directors to get opportunities and earn a living.

They got their first break in Bollywood, a movie that is not released till now. Their first released movie was “Parasmany” that gave them a big break to Bollywood. 1964 movie ‘Dosthi’ told the whole world that era of Laxmi-Pyare has already born. After getting a few opportunities in 1960’s, they fully dominated the industry during 70’s till middle 80’s. During 1993, their song ‘Choli ke peeche’ of Khal nayak became a controversial topic.

They gave equal preference to classic folks as well as western tunes. They had great depth of knowledge in Indian classical music more than any music directors – many music experts say so. Their best movies include Jeene ki raah, Satyam sivam sundaram, Khilona, Aaye din bahar ki, Hero, Mr.India, Haathi mere saathi, Night in London,  Sargam, Mehboob ki Mehndi, Karz, Amar Akbar Antony, Nazeeb, Tezaab, Abhinetri, Bobby, Pathar ke sanam, Milan, Shagird, Farz, Intequam, Do raasthe and Sanjog.
