Priyadarshini (singer) Biography

Priyadarshini is an Indian playback singer associated with south Indian film industry. She hails from Singapore and has worked in all south Indian language films except Malayalam. She is the managing partner of Priyadarshini school of Music foundation. Also known by the name Prism Foundation, this music school was started by her father Ram. She recorded her first film song with the legendary singer Hariharan. It was for the movie, Kadhal.Com, composed by Bharadwaj. Since then she has sung several songs for films.

She was initiated to the world of music by her grandfather at a very young age. Her grandmother is a Carnatic musician who has been a radio artist. Her parents Ram and Sumathi too encouraged her to groom her talents. She completed Engineering in Electrics and Electronics from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore with distinction marks. Later she moved to India, where she took Master’s in Music from Chennai University. She is currently pursuing her PhD from University of Mysore.

By the age of 19, she rendered more than 30 songs belonging to Kannada, Tamil and Telugu languages. She started off doing stage concerts with light music, when one of her friends told her that her voice is just right for playback singing. By that time she has given music concerts in Qatar, Singapore, Chennai and Bangalore, and after that she started seriously thinking about playback singing. She learnt Carnatic and Hindustani music from India, apart from taking lessons in voice-culture.

She got the first offer through the film - Kadhal.Com. After that she relocated to India to pursue a career in music. Rajesh Ramnath introduced her to Kannada film industry. She has sung songs for Puli, Kool, Kaddipudi, Yamadu, Siruthai, Kicha Hucha, Ishtam, Silambattam etc.
