Priya Gill Biography

Priya Gill is an actress of Bollywood during 1990’s. She is known for her simple, traditional looks. Her debut movie Tere mere sapne was a hit, followed by the successes of Sirf Tum and Josh. She was paired Shah Rukh Khan in the movie Josh (2000) where Aiswarya Rai was casted as his sister. She was successful in south Indian movies as well. She was paired opposite superstars Mammooty and Dileep in 1999 Malayalam flick – Megham, directed by Priya Darshan. She is absent from the industry for a decade or so.

 

She has also worked in Bollywood movies like Shyam Ghamshyam, Jeetenge Hum, Bade dilwala, Border Hindustan Ka and LOC Kargil. She has worked in a couple of Telugu movies like Rayalaseema Ramanna chowdhary and Bagunnara and she was paired opposite superstar Ajit in the Tamil movie Red, released in the year 2002. Jee Aayan Nu is her solo Punjabi movie released in the year 2002, where she played leading role against singer-actor Harbhajan Maan. It was directed by Manmohan Singh.

 

Priya Gill was born on December 9, 1977. She was Miss India finalist in the year 1995. It paved her way to movies. When Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL) was formed and thought of promoting young talents through a movie, Priya Gill was lucky enough to win the role of leading heroine. She was casted along with a group of youngsters and all were debutants too. The movie Tere mere sapane released in the year 1996 was filled with new actors – Priya Gill, Simran, Arshad Warsi and Chandrachur Singh and the movie was successful too. Simran later became the top actress of Tamil movies. Priya Gill was casted as a Tamil Brahmin girl in this movie and she simply carried away the role. Audience loved her to see her onscreen, but it typecasted her to be a simple girl next door.

 

She was paired opposite Suniel Shetty in Bade Dilwale, but the movie was a flop. But she was able to enjoy the success of Sirf Tum and Josh in the consecutive years, 1999 and 2000. Sirf Tum was the remake of Tamil super hit Kathal kottai, where she reprised the role played by Devayani. The movie was moderate success at box office too. She played the role of Goan violist opposite SRK in the hit movie Josh.
