Priya Dutt Biography

Priya Dutt is an Indian politician belonging to Indian National Congress party. She is the daughter yesterday stars of Bollywood – Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt and the younger sister of Sanjay Dutt. She is a member of 15th Lok Sabha since 2009. She is currently representing Mumbai North Central constituency. She was elected for the first time to 14th Lok Sabha from Mumbai North West constituency in 2005. She married Owen Roncon, partner in Oranjuice Entertainment, a music promotion company on November 27, 2003. He is also the partner of Fountainhead Promotions & Events Private Ltd, a marketing firm. The couple has 2 children.

She was born on 28 August 1966 in Mumbai in a family of filmy background. Both her parents Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt have been great stars of Bollywood as well as politicians and elected members of Indian National congress. She has two siblings - Sanjay Dutt, and Namrata Dutt. Along with Namrata, she published a memoir, entitled Mr and Mrs Dutt: Memories of our Parents, in 2007. She graduated in sociology from Sophia College, Mumbai University and took Post Graduate Diploma in TV Production from Center for Media Arts, New York. While studying at University, she worked in television and videos.

During a tense political period in 1992–1993, Priya worked with Muslim refugees in Mumbai. In 2005, she won Lok Sabha elections by a margin of 172,043 votes over Siva Sena. Dutt received considerable media attention for this victory. She had just delivered her first baby before the elections. Priya has been appointed secretary of the All-India Congress Committee. She also runs the NGO - The Nargis Dutt Memorial Charitable Trust.
