Prithviraj Chavan Biography

Prithviraj Chavan is serving as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He was selected to succeed Ashok Chavan by the Indian National Congress. He represented Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha and is serving as the member of the parliament of India. He served as the Minister of State in the Union Cabinet.

He was born on 17th March 1946 in Bumbhargaon Tal in Patan District in Indore. His father is D. R. Chavan. He studied B. E in Mechanical Engineering at BITS, Pilani and got his M. S. degree from University of California at Berkeley. She worked in aircraft instrumentation field for sometimes and later designed audio recorders for anti-submarine warfare in United States. He returned back to India and entered politics.

He married Satvasheela and has a daughter Ankita and a son Jai. He started his political career in the year 1991. He won Karad constituency three times in 1991, 1996 and 1998 and lost in the election of 1999. He served as the Minister of State in the ministries of Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Earlier he was also the in charge of the Department of Atomic Energy.

He assumed the office of Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 11th November 2010. Immediately after that, he met Jairam Ramesh, the Minister for Environment and Forests together with the Civil Aviation minister Praful Patel and got the environmental clearance for the delaying project of Navi Mumbai International Airport.
