Prema Biography

Prema is a south Indian actress who predominantly works in Kannada and Telugu movies. Her Kannada movies – Om and Yajamana are all time blockbusters. She played supporting role in Apthamitra (2004), remake of Malayalam hit, Manichitrathazhu, one of the highest Blockbuster hits of Kannada cinema. She received Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress in the year 1995 for the movie, Om. In 1996, she won Udaya Film Award for Best Actress for Nammoora Mandara Hoove and in 2001, Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Kannada for the movie, Kanasugara. E-tv Film Fare Award for Best Actress for Yajamana in 2000, Gemini TV film fare award for Best Actress in 1999 for Devi and Cinema Express Award for Best Actress for Chandramuki Pranasakhi in 1999 are other awards received by Prema. She has done more than 70 movies in Kannada and 28 movies in Telugu.

Prema belongs to Coorg, Karnataka. debut film industry in the year 1995 starring with Rajkumar sons in the movies, Savyasachi (with Shivarajkumar) and Aata Hudugaata (with Raghavendra Rajkumar). But both these movies didn’t fare well at box-office. Next she was casted in lead role opposite Shivarajkumar in Om, directed by Upendra. The movie was not only declared as the biggest blockbuster Kannada film of its time, Prema received state award for best actress as well. In 1996, she played lead role in Nammoora Mandara Hoove co-starring Shivarajkumar and Ramesh Aravind. Same year she debut Malayalam with the movie Prince, opposite Mohanlal and Telugu debut with the movie, Dharma Chakram.

After a couple of failed years, she returned back with Chandramuki Pranasakhi in the year 1999. Naanu Nanna Hendthiru and Devi were also released the same year establishing her name among the successful actresses. The following year out of 6 releases, Yajamana turned out to be all time blockbuster and one of the biggest hits of her career. Kanasugara, Apthamitra and Marma are the noted movies later.
