Prem Nazir Biography

Prem Nasir is known to be the ever green hero (Nithya haritha naayakan) of Malayalam silver screen who has ruled the film world in 60’s and 70’s. He holds the Guinness record along with Sheela for acting maximum movies together as hero and heroine. Their record includes 107 Malayalam movies of 60’s and 70’s combined. It’s really a surprising and astonishing record that 39 movies of this magical pair were released in the year 1979! Virtually an unbreakable record!

This Indian actor holds 4 Indian records. 610 movies as hero – the best figure for an Indian actor that gained him the title ‘Evergreen hero’, an unparallel record that can’t be chased easily in the modern times. 107 movies pairing with a single heroine of which 39, in a single year and 80 heroines throughout his career are other Indian records. His handsome looks, chocolate face and lovely screen presence added fan followers from all over the world.

He is remembered most for his role as a mad person in Iruttile athmavu, poorman in Thulabharam, Villain in Azhakulla Saleena, Ayalvaasi oru daridra vaasi (remake of comedy Golmaal) and his roles in Dhwani, Kallichellamma, Nadhi, Anubhavangal paalichakal, CID Nazir, Bhargavi Nilayam, Murapennu, kannappanunni, Thacholi Ambu, Vida parayum mumpe and Ningalenne Communistakki are his most memorable movies. It’s not an easy task to name his significant roles from the 600+ movies he played. He has done mythological movies belonging to all religions as well as hero movies based on Vadakkanpattukal of Malabar and Kalaripayattu. He has acted a series of detective movies with title CID Nazir and a few other suspense movies like Lanka Dahanam and Train can be included in this list.

He was honoured with Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. He has won state awards a few times as well.

In majority of his songs, Yesudas has rendered his voice with Devarajan’s music and Vayalar Ramavarma’s lyrics. Though his chemistry was noted most with Sheela, he has acted memorable movies aside Jaya Bharathi as well as Sarada.

During 80’s he slowly diverted himself to character roles. Dwani along with Sobhana and Jayaram is one nice movie. His last movie was along with Mohanlal and he died of jaundice before the completion of movie. Later, Shammi Thilakan, son of veteran actor Thilakan completed Prem Nazir’s role as duplicate. It was Prem Nazir’s ambition to work once with Mammooty, which didn’t fullfill.
