Prawaal Raman Biography

Prawaal Raman is a talented screenwriter and director of Bollywood at present, known for horror and psychological thriller films. A film director who believes that success formula of a movie lies in its film casting, he is known for his association with Ram Gopal Varma productions. He has directed one segment each from the experimental films of RGV – Darna Mana Hai (2003) and Darna Zaroori hai (2006). He also directed Tushar Kapoor starrer – Ghayab which was a box office failure. Among all his movies, 2011 psychological thriller film – 404 is regarded as his best work, which was praised by critics for its theme, plot, screenplay and direction. His latest work is Main Aur Charles in 2015, which was praised for its outstanding performances.

Prawaal started his film journey as an assistant director under Ram Gopal Varma during late 1990s. He assisted him for the movies like Fardeen Khan-Urmila starrer Jungle, followed by Ajay Devgan, Vivek Oberoi starrer – Company. Later RGV assigned him the first independent work of a thriller film - Darna Mana Hai (2003) which included 5 independent stories as well. Praised by critics for its innovative idea and a new experimental plot, Prawaal named fame as a director, and the movie was declared a box office hit.

When a similar horror film was made in 2006 titled Darna Zaroori Hai, he directed one of its sub-stories titled Spirits Do Come, which starred Bipasha Basu, Arjun Rampal and Makrand Deshpande. The movie couldn’t replicate the success of its prequel. He also wrote the script of 2007 horror film, Darling for RGV film productions. With the critically acclaimed movies – 404 and Main Aur Charles, he has cemented his position as one of the most talented Bollywood film directors at present. Prawaal is now planning to make a biopic on politician Ajay Kumar’s romantic life.
