Pravin Amre Biography

Pravin Amre is a former cricketer batsman associated with Indian cricket team during 1991-1994 period. He played 11 Test matches for Team India and his innings include one century and three half-centuries at an average of 42.50. 103 - is his highest score in test cricket, and 84 not out, his highest in ODI. In domestic cricket he has been a part of Mumbai, Railways, Rajasthan and Bengal, and after retirement from international career he has concentrated on to his career as a cricket coach. He currently serves as the coach of the India Under-19 cricket team and Mumbai cricket team.

 

His full name is Pravin Kalyan Amre. He was born in Mumbai on 14 August 1968. He started his domestic career in cricket in the 1980s, and has played for various teams such as Mumbai, Railways, Rajasthan and Bengal, before he got selected to national team in 1991. He also played in South Africa for Boland, and his score of 246 for Rest of India against Bengal remains the highest score by any batsman in the Irani Trophy, a record still to be broken. It remains his career best score too. He played 86 FC matches and 113 LA scoring 5815 and 2382 runs respectively. He was trained by Ramakant Achrekar.

 

He made his ODI debut against South Africa at Kolkata in November 1991, where he managed to score a half-century in his maiden match. He made his test debut on 13 November 1992 against South Africa. He played 37 ODI and 11 Test matches, in a career spanning to three years. He scored a total of 425 runs from 11 test matches and 513 runs from 37 ODIs, at a batting average of 42.50 and 20.52 respectively.  Now as a coach, he is known for spotting talented youngsters and promoting them. He spotted Shreyas Iyer at the age of 12 and later trained him. Currently Shreyas has joined Indian team.
