Praveena Biography

Praveena is a film and television actress, dubbing artist and TV anchor of Malayalam. She plays supporting roles in movies which plays protagonist roles in Malayalam serials. She started her acting career in 1992 as a child artist for Sapthaswarangal, a music programme on Doordarshan based on the novel ‘Gowri’. Kaliyoonjal in 1997 was her first movie as an adult actress. Agnisakshi (1998) and Oru Pennum Randaanum (2008) are her noted movies in which she played supporting actress role. She received Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress for both these movies. She has also received State award as a dubbing artist twice - Electra (2010) and Ivan Megharoopan (2012).

Praveena started her career as a child artist for a musical program for Doordarshan in the early 1990’s. The music program was titled, Sapthaswarangal based on T. Padmanabhan’s award winning novel Gouri. Kaliyoonjal was her debut movie as an adult actress, in which she acted aside Mammootty, Shobana, Dileep and Shalini. Later she appeared in supporting roles in movies like Oral Mathram, The Truth and Ezhupunna Tharakan. Critically acclaimed movie ‘Agnisakhi’ based on the novel by Lalithambika Antharjanam with the same novel earned her second best actress State award. She played supporting role next to Shobana in this movie.

She started her successful career as a television anchor and Rangoli (Malayalam version) aired on Doordarshan in Sunday Mornings (year 2000) was one of her earliest programs as a television anchor. She is a singer too and has been associated with many music shows as an anchor later. Apart from her acting and dubbing careers, she is a trained classical dancer too. Adi Parasakthi (Star Vijay), Devimahathmyam, Swapnam and Megham (Asianet) and  Malakhamar (Mazhavil Manoramma) are a few among her television serials.
